Jonathan Stroud book giveaway
Those of you who know me, know one of my favorite books is The Amulet of Samarkand, so when its author, Jonathan Stroud, came to Scottsdale, I had to make the trip to see him. I had never been to The Poisoned Pen before and I ended up parking half a block away and then making my way through back alleys to get to the store. That's fan dedication for you.
I named one of the characters in My Unfair Godmother Bartimaeus in honor of the Bartimaeus in Jonathan's book. Again, this is true fan dedication considering that I am a lousy speller and I usually avoid names that are four syllables long and have as many vowels as consonants. I gave Jonathan an ARC of My Unfair Godmother. Here he is saying, "You obviously don't know the difference between hay and straw."
Okay, not really, but I'm sure that's what he'll think when he reads the book.
Here is a picture of me with super librarian Tim Loge from Hamilton High. He's the one that's putting on the My Double Life book party on November 29th (Come and you could win an ARC of My Unfair Godmother--it's one of the prizes.) Anyway, Tim was there too and walked me to my car afterward so I didn't get mugged by any of the criminals who wander around Scottsdale at night. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty.
Now to the book giveaway part. I bought another copy of The Amulet of Samarkand to give to one of my lucky commenters. (Or at least alucky commenter who lives in the US or Canada). Leave a comment and tell me what your favorite book from the last ten years is and Random.org will choose the winner. Blog followers get double chances, so be sure to say if you're a follower.
Here is the cool cover that I like. Unfortunately that isn't the cover for the paperback. The cover on the paperback is below. (You'll just have to pretend it's the cool one.)
May the numbers be with you!

Does the last ten years mean a book that has come out in the last 10 years or that I read for the first time in the last 10 years?
I would have to say The Lord of The Rings.
It's hard to pick a favorite, but one is definitely The Hunger Games.
I love The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. :) I'm a follower.
I would probably have to pick Persuasion by Jane Austen, I've read it so many times and I never get tired of it =)
I would have to say My Fair Godmother. And if you don't already know that I'm a follower, I'm not stalking you well enough.
Oh, Jonathan Stroud is great! My fav. book from the last 10 years is probably the King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner. The whole series is really amazing. And I'm a follower!
I also have to go with The Hunger Games as well... one of the best book series that I have read in a loooooooooooooooooooong time. I'm a follower on Google Reader :)
Okay my favorite book of the last ten years has been... wow hard to choose. How about I just say that I LOVE My Fair Godmother. It's definitely a favorite. Oh and Twilight--mock me.
And I'm a follower!
I love the Bartimaeus Trilogy! I actually laughed out loud reading that series, and my husband would look at me through the corner of his eye, like "really, laughing out loud reading a JUV book?" My favorite book is The Guernsey Literay and Potato Peel Pie Society. And I'm a follower.
Agh! Ten years is too long! There's a whole list of novels that I have loved, but I'm gong to go with nonfiction and say Left To Tell by Immaculée Ilibagiza. It was totally life changing.
Wow, so many options... I don't know if it's my absolute favorite, but I really liked the Dark materials trilogy, by Cassandra Clare.
And I'm a follower.
Seriously My Fair Godmother :) Coming up next would be Enna Burning and Royal Target.
I follow, follow, follow you:)
Wow, this is a hard question! I would have to say The King of Attolia, too. LOVE that whole series, but that one is my favorite.
I'm a follower, too! Love your posts. Always very entertaining!
Hmm, that's hard! Probably Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn.
I am a follower and while I could never pick a favorite book I LOVED "The King of Attolia".
Wow, I have no friends who have read the King of Attolia and here two people other then me have it as their favorite books. I keep trying to get people to read the series and they wont. Frustrating.
I loved the Bartimeaus trilogy too but I think my favorite book in the last ten years is Ella Enchanted. I just love that book.
I think probably Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is probably my favorite.
I'm a follower.
I'd have to say that my favorite book, the one that I've reread the most (lately at least) is "Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hale. That was really hard!
I'm a follower!
I'm a follower. And my favorite book in the last 10 years is East of Eden.
I have too many favorites. My current favorite (the one I'm currently pushing everyone to read) is Maria Testa's Becoming Joe DiMaggio.
I'm a follower! Choosing a favorite book for me is like choosing a favorite color or ice cream. I like them all. I loved the third of the Twilight Series because it left me with such anticipation. Maybe if I win this will be my new favorite!
Very hard to choose, but What the Dr. Ordered is one of my favorites.
I absolutely adore the Fablehaven series.
(Although I totally agree with those who said the King of Attolia - although the Queen is my favorite of that series).
I'm a follower.
Too hard to pick just one. I guess I'd have to go with Twilight because it got me reading again.

Well, I like Dave Barry books (have they been out in the past 10 years?). I don't know if they count as a series, though. :(

I've actually not picked up the Stroud book *because* of the paperback cover, so I'm glad you showed us the cool one. Now that I've seen it, and more importantly, your endorsement, I have to check it out!
Favorite book, that's a tough one, but I'm going to go with the the first one that came to mind that might not be familiar to everyone, The True Meaning of Smekday, by Adam Rex. It made me laugh.
I also love Megan Whalen Turner's books. But, to say something different, I've really enjoyed reading the Artemis Fowl books this year. Fun, light reads.
I love a variety of different books. It is kinda hard to choose one. So let me choose three.
A series, to be exact.
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
Those books are so good. Very good at keeping you on the edge, but strangely satisfied at the same time.
(That was just the 'last ten years' book. If I chose out of all time, it would be Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith. LOVE.)
Hmmm . . . favorite book. I would have to say Warbreaker because that is the best one I have read recently.
I am a follower :)
I'm a follower, and one of my favorite books from the last 10 years is East by Edith Pattou.
Maximum Ride: That Angel Experiment and S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of Romance and High Adventure: The Princess Bride.
What? You didn't think I was actually going to pick just ONE did you??? (Especially when one has an incredibly long name that begs to be written???)
Since the last ten years is 62.5% of my life that's a hard question...
There's just too many! (Does that count as an answer? No? Darn.)
I just finished Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and really loved it.
Follower!
Hope it's not too late to enter! I'm actually listening to the audio book of The Amulet of Samarkand right now and am thorougly enjoying it. I understand the book has a lot of the little comments as footnotes, which is hard to distinguish in the audio book but I love the idea!
As for a favorite book, it's so hard to choose just one! I'll have to go with These is My Words, but I have so many favorites.
And yes, I follow your blog too!
