Just One Wish give-away

I just realized that I never did a give-away for Just One Wish that came out in March. Or if I did do one, I've forgotten, and I'm too lazy to look back in my blog and check.

In the book, seventeen year-old Annika wants to find her little brother's idol--the actor who plays Teen Robin Hood--and convince him to visit her brother before her brother goes in for surgery.

My question for you is: If you were going in for a risky surgery and could have any person alive come and visit you beforehand, who would you choose?

Here is a picture of me holding your lovely gift should you win this contest.

But wait, there's more! One of my writer friends said she always gives away a tie-in from her book, so I thought about objects used in this book (snakes, Winnebagos, stolen shorts, hair nets) and I decided to give away some stolen shorts!

Okay, just kidding. I am not about to steal anybody's shorts. Instead I'm including a lovely set of four hair nets. There used to be five but I took one out to model it for you. Then I decided I looked hideous in hair a hair net and did I really want that picture floating around the Internet forever? So here is one of my youngest fans modeling it for you:

So go ahead and leave a comment. Just One Wish is funny, romantic, thought provoking, and completely fat free!

Awesome!! I can't wait:)

Fat free, but I bet it is still so satisfying!

I would, of course, choose to have my husband come to vist me before surgery. Second would be my mom.

Just One Wish is superb!!! Can't wait for your next book. :D

Risky surgery - I would just want my family present.

Anonymous said...

Well since my family would already be there I think I would want someone that was funny to cheer me and the fam up but I want clean humor so maybe Brian Reagan.

Mrs. Kingsford said...

I haven't had a chance to read this one yet, cause the BYU library keeps telling me its "checked out". SO - I would have my family, specifically my mother and five siblings come and visit me. I think it would do us all good to have a good time together before anything serious happened :)

Don't pick me! Because I just ordered a copy on Amazon on Saturday, ha ha!

Definitely Michael Jackson. JK! I'm trying to think of someone really fun who could tell me the secret to life, or at least their life's secrets. Maybe one of Henry VIII's wives. Katherine of Aragon! I've always wondered if she was telling the truth about her relationship with Prince Arthur before he died. Yes, I think a good little gossip fest would perk me right up before my surgery!

Debbie Barr said...

If this excludes family and friends, I think I'd have to say... Shannon Hale? Yeah. I have to go with that. She livens up pretty much anything and would make me laugh and feel all happy before I went in.

*crosses fingers* I could really use those hairnets! ;)

Stephanie Humphreys said...

Hmmm...risky surgery? Assuming my family is already there, I'd have to say I'd want my two best friends there to cheer me up.

I'm just in this competition for the hair nets. But the book would be nice too. I think, family aside, I would like Elvis to come back from the dead (unless he really was beamed up by aliens, and if so, come back from the mothership)so that way I would not only be serenaded, but famous for being tied to the return of the KING!

Asenath said...

When did she get so big?? She doesn't look like my baby girl anymore!

Josi said...

Hmmmm, honestly I wouldn't want anyone there--my family, maybe, but I'd be too worried about them. Just give me a notebook so I can write sappy letters to everyone, and I'm good. It's very hard to type with my fingers crossed like this, I hope you know :-)

Janette,

You totally have the whole Vanna thing going on there with the book. But I totally think you should have modeled the hair net, just so we could show it at an upcoming writers conference.

The person I would want at my side (other than my wife and kids) is the best surgeon in the world. Normally I would say I wanted to meet an awesome writer like Stephen King, but not before life threatening surgery. Too scary.

OH dear sweet Janette. I do hope I win this contest! I love this book, and because of ME (I just yelled that) three of my friends also read the book...and I'm sure more of their friends read it...so it goes on, and on, and on.

Ok, so I would have picked Michael Jackson, because despite his odd facial funk going on, his music rocks and he rocks my world. But sadly, he has passed away. Which makes me think what body he's going to inherit when the time comes...I mean, will he look black or white? hmmm.

OK, second pick. I would pick Megan Whalen Turner. Because, aside from you (wink) she is my all time favorite author. In fact, I patiently await her next novel: Conspiracy of Kings. And the other three novels of her Theif seris are on my DO NOT TOUCH shelf. (side note: they are right next to your My Fair Godmother. Your covers are snuggling.)

But if I was picking someone from my own life, I would pick my grandma who I don't see very often because she lives in Hawaii. She is the inspiration to a character in my own book. And I love her dearly.

Pick Me. Pick Me. Pick Me. Pick Me.

I would have to say that I would want Taylor Swift to visit me. I would love the chance to explain to her the power her celebrity has to change so many people's lives. How many little girls want to be her- dress like her, act like her. She could help change a generation for good if she chose to. (and I'd love to hear "Best Day" one more time)

I've always wanted my own hairnet...

I admit it. I have not yet read Just One Wish . So I'm entering this contest. I think I would like Mandy Patinkin to visit. He could sing to me and then he could do his famous Princess Bride line. If that didn't make me feel better, I don't know what would.

Meredith said...

I would definitely need someone really hot. Because that would make me feel better, obviously. I'll have to go with Jensen Ackles, from Supernatural. He's very hot, and my love for him has been a running joke amongst my friends for several years. Plus, he has that deep sexy voice! Yes, definitely Jensen Ackles.

BTW, I enjoyed Just One Wish immensely. I literally laughed and cried.

Kaferine said...

Yay! A new book for me to read!

I'd have to say that (given I'd be able to see my family and boyfriend) I'd want J.K Rowling to come so I could pick her brain about Harry Potter before I died. Is it weird to still be obsessed with a fictional universe while you're dying?

Rachel Q said...

I have to question the validity of your "fat-free" claim since I'm frequently chopping M&M's while reading your fun books. But I'm sure the funny, romantic and thought-provoking statements are all true! :)

Other than my family to visit me, who are givens, I think I would pick YOU! I have enjoyed reading your books so far and would enjoy meeting you. Besides, getting to know you a bit through your blog would make it more fun/easy to meet you rather than some celebrity I like solely for their looks/acting ability which would simply make me more nervous and not likely help with my surgery.

Jenilyn Collings said...

My husband, of course, was the first to come to mind. But after family members, I'd actually want President Monson. He's that sort of person who makes you believe that it's all going to get better. And who am I to turn down a blessing from a prophet?

Anonymous said...

I don't know how I'm supposed to compete with someone wanting you to come be with them before they went into a surgery. I would want my family--especially my uncles. They are the kind of people who when (at family parties) you are talking about Yosemite or something, lead the conversation to something like frogs in the pit toilets, and we are all laughing like crazy and Grandma is wondering why her kids grew up to be so... weird. Of course, she's laughing too. I would want them to come make me laugh, make me happy, make me forget hospital beds and surgical knives, all my worries, and all the unhappy things in the world. That's who I'd want. Life seems so much brighter and easier when you can laugh at it.

Kelsi Rose said...

If I could have one person come and visit me before I went into surgery, excluding all the people that would be there anyway, I would want Lisa and Steven to be there. They wouldn't be there because they live far away and I love them. Plus they are the only people that I would want to see me all gross before I had surgery.

Mary Ann said...

It may sound cliche, but I would definitely want JK Rowling there. Because she's the only person who could say that she single handedly changed my life through her books. And wouldn't you want the person who changed your life to be there when it could be ending? I know I would. Plus, she could answer all those unanswered HP questions that I know are gonna bug me forever. At least I could die with peace of mind, knowing the answer to something I poured over during my HP obsessed years.

Just One Wish is just about the only book of yours I have not read yet! Cause my library does not have it yet! Geh.

If I were to chose one person who wasn't in my family or a friend.... I would have to pick either Jane Austen or George Lucas. Those two made up two of my favorite things: P&P a Star Wars. Of course Jane Austen would have to come back to life... or time travel for that to happen.lol

But if I had to chose a family member or a friend... it would be between my mom and my best friend Kara. I love those two people to death.

I think I would want my five-year-old sister. She's too little to understand all of the technical/medical things, so she would continue being herself (but she'd probably have a few questions about everything). I would cry, but I would also be laughing because it's impossible not to laugh when my sister's around.

LucindaF said...

Not counting the people who would be willing to be there. I'd have to go with the irreverent Wanda Sykes.
She'd keep all the doctors and nurses on their toes.
She'd make fun of me and everyone and everything in the room. It would be glorious. I'm sure there would be jokes about my gown and just how glowingly white my legs are.

I'd be be laughing my head off and say things like, "Dr. you better knock me out before Wanda kills me before the cancer gets a chance."

Cami Checketts said...

The book looks fabulous, but it's the hair nets that hooked me! Please enter me into the contest. If I were going in for a risky surgery I'd want my husband to come visit me.

Jenn Adams said...

I better not have to get anyone to go out and convince any of my family members to be there, so I won't count them. And I wouldn't ask for any dead people or fictitious characters because, while the idea is interesting, I'd be hard-pressed to get any of my loved ones to go out there and search for them to convince them to come visit me.

So I've been racking my brain to try and think of any celebrities I'd want to have come, and the truth is that I'm just not the celebrity type. You'd never find me screaming to get to the edge of the police barricade just to touch someone and then never wash my hand forever after.

I liked someone's idea about having a comedian come and cheer us all up, though, and for me that would be Bill Cosby. My family used to watch "Bill Cosby Himself" and laugh so hard our sides hurt. I'd want him to come and do his chocolate cake routine. Now, that would be sweet.

Tina Lynn said...

I would say Hayley William, lead singer from Paramore, because I know the only one that would even consider going on a zany adventure to find her would be my daughter, and my daughter loves her. So...I would go into surgery knowing my daughter has met, at present, her hero (or heroine:)and could die happy.

Oh, and the hairnets would so come in handy when/if I ever decide to cook:)

Giovanna said...

I am not really doing the little contest give away, but I just want to point out that hairnets are all fun and games til you have to wear them everyday...I'm just saying. :) But I will answer your question. I wish that my Aunts and Uncles and Cousins, and all other family members would come visit cough*Auntie*cough, so we could have another family reunion. :D

Danyelle L. said...

Can I just say that this is my favorite book you've written so far? :)

I would choose my husband who would also sneak in the kidlets. But the husband for sure. I would also have a very detailed to-do list for him. O:)

Jennifer said...

I hope I win!

Robert Pattinson can come visit me! LOL!

Taffy said...

You are too funny! I think we would have been BFFs in high school! :)

Unknown said...

As everyone else has said...family and close friends are a given. And although Pres. Monson would be at the top of the list..if I were going for just pure out of the box what would I love to experience before I die? Hands down...Josh Groban! I would LOVE a private concert with that gorgeous voice! I listen to his music all the time to help me get centered and relaxed when my life starts feeling crazy and out of control. A risky surgery seems to me a pretty out of control moment...so a little Josh private concert, would be just the remedy I'd need to breathe deep and trust the world, trust myself, trust Heavenly Father, and trust the doctors.

I have enjoyed reading everyone else's responses! What a fun way to spend a few minute of my day!

I already have a copy and just adored it. Such a fun read, but also with some amazing depths. I even cried, and I'm not much for crying. Okay, so I'm pregnant. That MAY have been factor. Summing up - great book!

Kristy said...

Loved your book! I really tried to think of who I'd want to visit me besides my family... I couldn't think of anyone. But if the surgery was for one of my kids, I'd love to have someone really cool come visit them ...like Mickey Mouse. :)

Kami said...

Oh, pick me! PICK ME! I want one!

Lisa And Randy said...

I am so looking forward to reading your book, and it would be very nice if I won.
As for who I would want to have there, besides my husband and other family of course, I would have to say, my very good friend, Melissa, who lives in Utah. She has been a friend, almost sister since 1980. One of those who I felt I knew since we first met.

If I had to choose anyone it would be, Demi Lovato because I find her a complete inspiration to me as a writer and a person.

If I was going to be having a risky surgery, I would want my mom to come visit me. It may be very non-original, but it's the truth. My mom's been there every other time for me , so why not one more hug and kiss on the cheek to keep my spirits up?

Jackee said...

Hi, Janette. Love your blog! Love your books!

Would you come and sit with me as I lay dying? Or surviving. Whichever the case may be. Ha, ha.

Dutley said...

Jackee, you totally stole my idea. I wanted to request the incredibly amazing Janette Rallison to come visit me at the hospital wearing scrubs and booties while performing Aretha Franklin, all in a dose of poetic justice. Plus she'd totally have to bring her version of Teen Robin Hood to make the adventure complete.

Sarah M Eden said...

Hmmm... Going in for a risky surgery? Who would I want to come visit me beforehand?

The anesthesiologist.

Definitely. I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but I do not want to be awake for that "really risky surgery."
Just sayin.

Celise said...

Realistically, it would be my hubby. But if we're talking celebs, I would love for the group Linkin Park to come in and do an acoustic set of some of their most popular songs. LOL.

Julie Wright said...

I already own just one wish so don't enter me in the contest. I just need you to sign this most excellent book for me! I wish you would have posted you in the hair net :)

I loved Just One Wish. Can't wait for your next book(:
I would want my dog Charlie to come visit me. He's so cute and upbeat, he would make me forget why I was there!

I know this is an old post on your blog, but I only just discovered your blog today and had to share how much I loved this book! My sister (Erin Summerill - who says she's met or emailed you or something - or maybe I'm just confused about that - but I do know she's a huge fan of yours) has pointed me in the direction of your books. Although I haven't been a teenage girl for a very long time, I had such a fun time reading Just One Wish and My Fair Godmother. Can't wait to read more!
