The biggest problem with running contests on my blog is picking a winner. It’s sooo hard to narrow it down. I have to say I was impressed that family members beat out celebrities when it came to who you’d like to see before you went in for risky surgery.
I was a little surprised at people who wanted visits from deceased persons. I think those are the last sort of folks I’d want to see before surgery. I mean, isn’t that a bad omen? I want to meet George Washington, but if I saw him before surgery I would wonder if he’d been sent as the welcoming committee for the afterlife.
Ditto for the actor from one of my all time favorite movies—The Princess Bride. If Mandy Patinkin showed up and said his famous line, “You killed my father, prepare to die.” Well, let’s just say that’s not the most comforting thing I’d want to hear.
A lot of people asked for comedians--and as a writer of comedy I find that particularly validating. I'll try to remember that when the next reviewer calls one of my books, "fluffy". Apparently my writing is akin to clouds, cotton balls, and frosting, but I digress.
I guess, like Jeff, the visitor I'd choose is a guy in a white coat who says, “Hi, I’m the most accomplished brain surgeon in the world, and I stopped by to do your surgery.”
Sarah's vote for the anesthesiologist also has a lot of merit though, and everyone who put down President Monson--very wise choice.
But how can I not give the book to somebody who would want me to show up before their surgery? I'm not saying I'd actually go, mind you, but yeah, you get a free book for requesting.
I’m going to send the hardback to the Rachel, the first person who wrote that answer, (Along with those coveted hair nets) but Jackee and Dano, will get an ARC because the bow-tied one's assistant just told me they found a few extra of those and are sending them to me. (ARC = Advanced Reading Copy--it's what the publisher sends to reviewers. It's a paperback and generally has some typos. This ARC also has a few lines that the publisher made me take out--but that is the subject for a whole other blog.)
So guys, send your addresses to my email: jrallisonfans at yahoo dot com.

I have to say I am very sad Janette;) I was really hoping for that book--I was going to display it on my mantlepiece (okay I don't have a mantlepiece but if I did the book would go THERE; actually I'd have put it on a very prominent shelf completely dedicated to you and your awesomeness) and I was planning on constantly explaining to friends and visitors where the book came from and why I prize it next to my personal scriptures. Dang, I was even going to love this book more than my personal copy of Twilight. I guess I'll have to get on the waiting list at the library...
But on the bright side, if you ever have risky surgery, you can still ask me to come . . .
I think I should become a hypochondriac so I can have a risky surgery - and then invite you.
Maybe I could be the next octo-mom. Would you come for that surgery?
That would be followed by my funeral for having 12 children and 8 of them the same age.
Would you come for that too?
Sure! Just drop me a note when you're having those eight kids or your funeral, whichever comes first.
YES!!!!
I think my coolness factor just went up a little.
You guys are funny :)
I saw the Mandy Patinkin picture and I thought for sure I'd won. Sigh...But I did read Just One Wish. It finally came in at the library. I loved it--I think it's your best one yet.
PS. I'll send you the article (finally published) once I track down the scanner cable...as long as no children or small animals ate it.
Ohhh, sorry, Kaylie. I just put up because I love Princess Bride and all things Princess Bridey. But hmmm--I'll see how many ARCs my publisher sends me. There might still be one in your future--but then of course you will be required to comb through it to see if you can find the lines I had to take out of the finished manuscript. . .
Janette, I love your books! I read My Fair Godmother a little while ago and loved it so much I went to the library and checked out all the books they had of yours. I've spent the last little while reading them all and I'm a huge fan. I just finished Just One Wish and was blown away. What a great story. Thanks for writing such fun, clean books. I'm almost 30 and although your books are meant for a YA audience I still love them. Thanks again!

SQUEEE!
The reflection in the mirror has to believe me now when I tell it I'm a winner!!!!
Congratulations to the other winners...great minds think alike. Thanks for this fun contest Janette. Please send my warmest regards to the bow tie's assistant for finding some runner up prizes. I'm so excited to add a Janette Rallison ARC to my collection. Of course you are going to be at my bedside in the event of a major surgery. I'm going to update my living will and healthcare plan to include you. Have a great day! I know I will.
Wait... I won an ARC?! Then how dare I go and have a baby last week instead of check your blog until now. Thank you so much!
I'm soooo emailing you right now. And that's sad I didn't get to meet you and Erin in Tempe on Monday.
